Google Maps

Maps, routes, and local places

Google Maps is a navigation and local search app for people who need directions, want to find nearby places, or plan journeys across town and beyond. It supports driving, walking, cycling, and public transport, with route guidance that can adjust when traffic incidents affect the journey. The app also combines maps with business listings, reviews, photos, opening information, and location details.

Useful tools for getting around

• Live navigation: Follow turn-by-turn directions while driving, walking, cycling, or using public transit.
• Local discovery: Search for restaurants, shops, services, and other destinations, then compare listings using details such as ratings, cuisine, or price.
• Street-level views: Check roads, buildings, entrances, and nearby surroundings before visiting with Street View and other visual map features.
• Offline areas: Save selected map regions for navigation when a reliable data connection is not available.
• Walking guidance: In supported places, camera-based directions can help identify the correct path through busy or unfamiliar areas.

Who it suits

The app is a practical choice for commuters, drivers, travelers, pedestrians, and anyone comparing nearby businesses. Public transport users can use it to check routes and available services, while visitors may find Street View and saved offline areas helpful when exploring unfamiliar locations. Its broad coverage also makes it useful as a general-purpose place finder rather than only a driving tool.

App details and limitations

Google Maps is published by Google LLC in the Travel & Local category. It has more than 10,000,000,000 installs and a listed rating of 3.17 from about 19.3 million reviews. Continuous location tracking, live traffic data, and camera-based features can use significant battery and mobile data. Map coverage and transit information also vary by region, so some tools may be less complete outside major cities.
